Food Standards Agency guidance on illegal meat and poultry meat for food law enforcement officers in Wales is in the process of being updated. Following the introduction of the European Union Food Hygiene Regulations on 1 January 2006, much of the legislation contained with the guidance has been repealed.
The guidance provides advice on all aspects concerning the production and sale of illegal meat including identifying the correct legislation.
It also brings together several other guidance notes previously issued by the Agency on a variety of issues relating to the requirements for the production of meat for human consumption, such as cutting up of meat by butchers; private slaughter; smokies and Specified Risk Material (SRM) and other BSE controls.
The guidance was last updated in October 2009.
Back to topHaving applied the FSA's prioritisation and scoring system to the Illegal Meat Guidance document, I can confirm that we will not need to produce a Welsh version, maily due to the technical and lengthy nature of this document. I appreciate that this Guidance was previously available in Welsh, but that version pre-dates our new Welsh Language Scheme and the systems it implements in order to target our Welsh language provision in the most appropriate way.
