Improving diet in Wales: piecing together the jigsaw

Ref: WA8/O6CK

Food Standards Agency Wales is to hold the 2006 'Food and Well Being' Nutrition Network for Wales conferences in May and June.

The 'Food and Well Being' Strategy launched in February 2003 gave a focus to improving the diet and nutritional status of the population in Wales. This has been further supported by the launch of Health Challenge Wales and other strategies that seek to reach specific groups within the population, such as the elderly, and children and young people. These conferences will seek to demonstrate how these strategies complement one another and together form a substantial programme of action on diet and nutrition in Wales.

The conferences will also be an opportunity to recognise the hard work, commitment and enthusiasm shown by those engaged in community projects across Wales which promote better diet. Ten such projects will be presented with an Award for Food Action Locally (AFAL).

The events will take place on 23 May 2006 at NEWI (North East Wales Institute of Higher Education) Wrexham and on 15 June 2006 at the Newport Centre, Newport.
