Cookery and pantomime fun for all at the National Eisteddfod

Wednesday 31 July 2002

Cookery demonstrations, pantomime and interactive computer games will be on offer to visitors at the National Eisteddfod this year, with the Food Standards Agency Wales bringing its unique mix of food hygiene and healthy eating advice to the Maes.

Cinderella, the Ugly Sister and their Fairy Godmother will be battling against ‘Mr E’ (E-Coli), ‘Liz’ (Listeria) ‘Sal’ (Salmonella) in their Wacky Kitchen, every day of the Eisteddfod. Performances will run several times a day.

Healthy and nutritious meals in minutes are also on the menu, with live cookery demonstrations on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (6-8 August). Dilwen Phillips, a member of the Agency’s Advisory Committee for Wales, will be cooking up a ‘Feast of a Menu’, showing visitors how cutting the fat need not affect the taste.

Aside from the working kitchen and stage for the demonstrations and pantomime, there’s plenty to see and do on the FSA Wales stand.

Visitors are invited to try their luck on the interactive computer games promoting food safety and the benefits of a balanced diet.

There’s also an opportunity to find out how we’re working to enforce food law, improve food labelling and become Wales’ most reliable source of advice and information about food.
