Pupils at a Pontypridd secondary school will be the first in Wales to sample a new CD-Rom next week (Wednesday).
Interactive Food Facts, which aims to promote the concepts of good food and nutrition, will be presented to Ysgol Rhydfelin food technology students at a launch next Wednesday, 23 January (10:30am).
The launch takes place as the Food Standards Agency Wales prepares to issue the British Nutrition Foundation produced CD-Rom to every Welsh language school in the country. The Agency has funded translation into Welsh and the purchase of site licences that allow use of the CD on multiple computers.
FSA Wales Advisory Committee member Mrs Dilwen Phillips will launch the CD-Rom at Ysgol Rhydfelin alongside Roy Ballam, senior education officer for the British Nutrition Foundation. They will explain how the CD-Rom aims to motivate pupils to understand the contribution that food makes to their overall health and wellbeing.
Mrs Phillips said: "I am delighted to be involved in this important launch.
The Interactive Food Facts CD-Rom includes a wide variety of topics - for example diet, digestion, food chain development and manufacture.
That makes the resource suitable for a wide range of subjects, including food technology, science and social education.
"In addition, the English language CD-Rom has already been through a pilot evaluation project across the UK, and fully meets curriculum requirements."
Roy Ballam added: "The Food Standards Agency and the British Nutrition Foundation are committed to encouraging young people to understand the contribution of food to their health and well-being. We are delighted with the concept and breadth of topics covered in this one resource."
