This research project aims to produce analytical standards for the accurate measurement of phytoestrogens in food.
Study Duration : June 1998 to May 2002
Contractor : University of St. Andrews
The ability to accurately measure phytoestrogens in food as well as in samples of blood and urine is vital to be able to assess the human exposure and biological effects of these compounds. Analysis is critically dependent on the availability of pure labelled and unlabelled analytical standards for phytoestrogens and their metabolites. However, the range and availability of these compounds is limited. This project will develop methods for the preparation of analytical standards for phytoestrogens and their metabolites.
Labelled ( 13 C labels) and unlabelled phytoestrogens and their metabolites will be prepared using synthetic chemical methods for use in analytical studies.
