Project details: research programme B12

Details of Agency-funded projects under the Microbial Risk Assessment research programme (B12).

B01019: Development of a risk assessment model for the different pathways of infection of VTEC O157

This research project aims to develop a microbiological risk assessment to model the risks of VTEC O157 infection by the main routes of transmission.

B01020 : A microbiological risk assessment of Listeria monocytogenes in cooked meat and poultry

This research project aims to identify and quantify the risk to the consumer of Listeria moncytogenes infection and illness following the consumption of cooked meat and poultry.

B10004: Assessment relative to other pathways of the contribution made by the food chain to the problem of quinolone resistance in microorganisms causing human infections

This research project will assess the contribution of the food chain to the problem of quinolone resistance in micro-organisms causing human infection relative to other pathways.

Results available.

B12001: Microbiological risk assessment for norovirus infection - contribution to the overall burden afforded by foodborne infections

This research project assessed the feasibility of estimating the contribution of foodborne norovirus transmission to the overall burden of gastroenteritis caused by norovirus in the UK.

Results available.

B12002: Review of raw milk analysis methods and assessment of their effectiveness as pathogen markers and indicators of farm hygiene

This research project seeks to assess the fitness of various bacterial groups for use as indicators of quality, faecal contamination and pathogen content of raw milk.

Results available.

B12003: Investigation of the effectiveness of pre-milking teat cleaning regimes

This research project aims to identify and assess currently used pre milking teat cleaning practices and investigate the nature of the decontamination problem in terms of levels and types of micro-organisms.

Results available.

B12004: Evaluating the growth and survival of salmonella on chicken at chilled storage temperatures

This research project aims to evaluate the growth and survival of salmonella on chicken at chilled storage temperatures.

Results available.

B12006: Risk assessment of Listeria monocytogenes in UK retail cheese

This research project aims to gather industrial intelligence on the formulation and manufacture of the main categories of UK retail cheese in order to assess the risk of L. monocytogenes contamination and growth.

Results available.

B12007: To investigate the impact of butter production on growth of Listeria monocytogenes

This research project aims to investigate the ways butter and butter-containing spreads are formulated, manufactured and handled and to determine how these factors affect the growth and survival of different strains of L. monocytogenes , particularly outbreak strains.

Results available.
