The Agency has active research programmes in support of its strategy to reduce Campylobacter in chicken, investigating potential interventions both on-farm and during processing. The development of suitable risk assessment models will help in assessing the potential impact and effectiveness of interventions on the level of Campylobacter on retail chicken, while allowing the Agency to focus its research on the appropriate part(s) of the food chain.
A number of Campylobacter risk assessment models have been developed in recent years and a feasibility study is required to review the structure and modelling approaches used and the suitability of recently generated research data in relation to populating a risk assessment model. The review will make recommendations on the feasibility and approach for a Campylobacter risk assessment allowing the Agency to come to a view on further development of the most appropriate model and how to proceed with updating the chosen model with recent data.
