Project details: Food Safety Aspects of Inorganic Environmental Chemical Contaminants

Details of Agency-funded projects under the Chemical Contaminants from Food Production research programme (C01).

C01030: Integrated assessment of the distributions, behaviour and plant interactions of lead, manganese and platinum group elements in roadside and agricultural environments

This research project aims to investigate the impact on the foodchain of contamination resulting from car exhausts.

C01040 Horizon scanning for environmental contaminants

The research project will review methodologies for identifying emerging contaminant threats to food safety.

C01041 Metals and organics in fish and shellfish from inland waterways

This research project will assess the levels of consumption of coarse and game fish and shellfish taken from unmanaged inland UK waterways, particularly in areas of known or suspected contamination.

C01045: Levels of arsenic in rice and the effects of cooking – literature review.

This research project aims to measure the levels of arsenic and inorganic arsenic in different types of rice that are commonly consumed in the UK. Specifically it will investigate the effects of cooking (e.g. boiling, steaming, etc.) on such levels.

C02070: Assessment of the mercury concentrations in soil and vegetation, including crops, around crematoria.
