A wide range of organisations have been working together for Food Safety Week by organising local activities and promoting food safety.

More than 500 local authorities and schools have signed up and are running events during Food Safety Week. And, in addition to the work of the Foodlink partners (the previous co-ordinators of Food Safety Week), Netmums has created a food safety package on its site (netmums.com) and Focus on Food has produced a GermWatch pack for schools.

Statements of support

Alison Gardiner, The British Retail Consortium (BRC): 'The BRC is delighted to be involved with National Food Safety Week and work in partnership with the Food Standards Agency on its development. Food safety is a key issue for our members. Retailers are committed to providing their customers with accurate information on food safety, including the storage, preparation and cooking of food and we believe National Food Safety Week is a key event in increasing awareness of these important issues and keeping consumers safe.'

David Lock, LACORS: 'Food Safety Week provides a good example of partnership working between the Food Standards Agency and local authorities. Authorities are pleased to help locally promote key food hygiene messages as part of a well planned national campaign.'

Fay Mansell, National Federation of Women's Institutes: 'With the considerable interest in food a cook's first priority is to ensure the safety of her diners and that a kitchen is absolutely clean. FSA's Food Safety Week is a timely reminder and rightly elevates the prominence of the 4 Cs in cleaning, cooking, chilling and cross-contamination in order to protect the family.'
