The Food Standards Agency funded a study into the views of stakeholders, which was carried out by ADAS consulting in March and April 2003. The report reflects the views and opinions of the contractor (ADAS) and the people who took part in the consultation.
The Agency recognises that consumers prefer not to have pesticide residues in their food. Following the Board’s confirmation in June 2002 of its commitment to minimise pesticide residues, the Agency commissioned research to inform the development of an appropriate action plan.
The main aim of this project was to consult widely with stakeholders to find out their views and to ensure that the Agency is informed and up to date with policies and initiatives that might have an impact on pesticide residues in food.
ADAS contacted 94 stakeholders and 63% of these replied. The stakeholders came from a wide range of organisations including consumer organisations, NGOs (non-governmental organisations), Government departments and committees, commissions and agencies, non-departmental public bodies, levy boards, organic farming organisations, agrochemical companies and related organisations, agronomists, plant breeders, farmer/grower organisations, processors, and assurance schemes.
The views of the stakeholders are summarised in the report.
