Sainsbury's withdraws Strawberry Pencils due to a 'suitable for coeliacs' label on a product containing wheat gluten

Risk:

All batch codes of the above product contain wheat gluten. A 'suitable for coeliacs' label is incorrectly present on the packaging. This makes the product a potential health risk for people who are allergic to or intolerant of wheat gluten.

Sainsbury’s Strawberry Pencils, 75g
Best before: all dates
Product code: all codes

Action taken by the Company:

The product has been distributed throughout Sainsbury’s supermarkets within the UK.

Sainsbury’s supermarkets have withdrawn all date codes of this product.

Point of sale notices will be displayed in Sainsbury’s stores to inform consumers. In addition, Sainsbury’s will contact the relevant allergy support organisations who will inform their at risk members of the withdrawal.

No other Sainsbury’s products are known to be affected.

Advice to consumers:

Customers with an allergy or intolerance to wheat gluten are advised not to eat this product.
