Investigations into the current outbreak of illness amongst Welsh children have established a link between a Bridgend meat supplier and the E. coli outbreak. As a result the supplier - John Tudor and Son - has withdrawn all its cooked meat range due to the risk of contamination of E.coli 0157.
The company supplies primarily to schools and other local authority institutions in the South Wales area. It is also believed that the company may supply outlets that sell direct to consumers.
There remains the possibility that some unused affected product may still be found in other catering premises. The FSA has today issued an alert to local authorities asking them to make contact with such premises to ensure that all cooked meat products from this particular supplier, delivered on or before 20 September 2005, are removed from use.
Any establishment or caterer identifying that they have such cooked meats from John Tudor and Son is advised to contact their local authority, for removal of this product.
