The Food Standards Agency is warning people with allergies to milk, wheat and mustard not to eat potato snacks from certain Walkers packets that have been mislabelled. Walkers Snack Foods have inadvertently packed some cheese and onion flavoured French Fries into bags labelled as ready salted flavour.
The bags of French Fries are sold individually. Some people with allergies to milk, wheat and mustard may have a severe reaction to the cheese and onion flavouring, including possible anaphylactic reactions.
It is possible that up to 11,000 wrongly labelled packets are in circulation. Although the company has not been able to verify where the packets have been distributed, it is most likely that this product will be found in small retail outlets, pubs and vending machines.
If you have bought one of the affected packets, contact the Walkers customer helpline on freephone 0800 274 777.
The affected product is:
Walkers ready salted French Fries in individual packets
'Best before' 26/02/05
All codes between GBC303 318d and GBC303 319d inclusive.
Notes for editors:
Food Alerts are the FSA's way of letting local authorities and consumers know about problems associated with food and, in some cases, providing details of specific action to be taken.
They were previously known as Food Hazard Warnings and were issued under four categories (A, B, C and D).
Now they are issued under two categories:
Room 245 Aviation House,
