The Agency has published reports of local authority audits carried out in a number of areas of the audit programme.
The first set of reports for the programme of audits looking at Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) compliance includes the reports of audits in the local authority areas of Arun, New Forest, South Northamptonshire, Westminster and Wychavon.
The audit for Worthing is concerned with feed/food law service delivery and food business compliance.
In addition, the Agency has published the report into the focused audit of 34 local authorites within Berkshire, Derbyshire, Humber and Lancashire Food Liaison Groups evaluating their inter-authority and peer review processes.
The Agency's local authority audit scheme, launched April 2001, is the process by which the Agency conducts a qualitative assessment of local authority performance.
Authorities are audited against the Food Law Enforcement Standard in the Framework Agreement, which sets out the minimum standards of performance expected from local authorities across the full range of their food law enforcement activities. The scheme is implemented on a UK basis, with the Agency co-ordinating audit programmes in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Local authorities are selected to represent a cross-section of local authority types, geographical location and level of enforcement activity as indicated by quarterly monitoring returns.
