mussel
The Food Standards Agency is warning people not to eat certain batches of frozen mussels produced by Irish company Bantry Bay Seafoods because they may contain AZP (Azaspiracid Shellfish Poisoning toxins), which are known to cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach cramps.
AZP are naturally occurring marine biotoxins. Mussels from the same batches are believed to be responsible for a number of cases of food poisoning in France.
Bantry Bay Mussels has supplied the affected batches to the UK retailers listed below. These companies have recalled the affected products from sale and displayed notices in their stores to alert customers to the problem. Brand names and batch numbers are listed.
Customers are being asked not to eat the affected products and return them to the relevant store for a refund.
