The Agency welcomes the launch of a long-life 1% milk, produced by Milk Link and available in Sainsbury’s stores from this week and in other stores nationwide shortly.

moo one% contains nearly half the fat of semi-skimmed milk, while still providing the important nutritional benefits of milk, including calcium, protein, minerals and vitamins. Sainsbury’s launched a 1% fresh milk in April of this year, which the Agency welcomed.

Food Standards Agency Head of Nutrition Rosemary Hignett said: 'Long-life milk is a convenient product for many people and so it's good news for consumers that there is now a 1% long-life milk available to choose from.

'Dairy products, including milk, make an important contribution to a balanced diet, as illustrated by our eatwell plate. However, we are consuming too much saturated fat in the UK, which is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, and being able to choose lower-fat alternatives is an easy way to reduce the amount of saturated fat in our diet.'
