Health Interlink Ltd has withdrawn certain batches of two varieties of its Garden of Life organic whole food fiber bars. The Food Standards Agency has issued an Allergy Alert.
The affected products are labelled as 'dairy free', but have been found to contain casein, a protein found in milk, which is not shown on the label. This makes these products unsafe for people with a milk allergy or intolerance, and they should not consume them.
No other products in this range are known to be affected.
Health Interlink Ltd has withdrawn the affected products. These products are only available from Health Interlink Ltd, either from their website or by mail order. The company has put a notice on its website to advise on-line customers of the withdrawal. It is also contacting all known recent buyers of these bars. In addition, Health Interlink Ltd is in contact with the Anaphylaxis Campaign, Allergy UK and Alert4Allergy who will tell their at-risk allergic members of the withdrawal by mail shot or text message.
Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect, or if there is any other food allergy risk.
In such situations the Agency will issue an Allergy Alert. It is also possible to subscribe to an email alert system to receive automatic messages whenever Allergy Alerts are issued.

Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).
