Ferrosan Ltd has withdrawn two batch codes of Imedeen Prime Renewal food supplements due to the undeclared presence of irradiated white tea extract.
The Food Standards Agency has issued a Food Alert for Information.
The batch codes being withdrawn are:
Both codes have a best before date of June 2007. No other batch codes of this product are known to be affected.
Ferrosan has written to all recipients of the product requesting that they withdraw the two affected batch codes from sale and return it to their distributor.
Ferrosan imports the product directly into the UK from Ferrosan A/S in Soborg, Denmark. The irradiated white tea extract was manufactured in China by the China National Chemical Construction Anhui Company, Hefei, PR China.
There are no immediate food safety implications arising from these irradiated products, but as the irradiation had not been carried out at an approved food irradiation plant the import and sale of the products does not comply with the Food (Control of Irradiation) Regulations 1990.
Also, the products are not labelled as being irradiated so they do not comply with The Food Labeling Regulations 1996.
