Draft research strategy on TSEs issued

The incidence of BSE in the UK continues to be in decline and vCJD cases appear to be stabilising. However, some uncertainties remain on transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) and their relationship to animal and human health.

To take work in this area forward, UK Government funders of research into TSEs, including the Food Standards Agency, have prepared a joint strategy document on human and animal health aspects of TSEs.

The draft strategy highlights the major scientific uncertainties relating to TSEs and how these will be addressed by the research and development strategies of the major UK funders.
