Update on developments regarding nitrate

Food Standards Agency Scotland has sent out a letter to interested parties with a summary of recent developments in the area of nitrate policy and research.

This update covers the following topics:

• Outcome of recent discussion of nitrate issues in Europe
• UK Monitoring programme for lettuce and spinach
• Publication of a survey of nitrate in retail salads
• Implementation of Regulation (EC) No 466/2001 setting a limit for nitrate in infant foods
• Review of FSA research and surveillance programmes on chemical contaminants
