Nutrient profiling

In November 2004, the Agency published the results of research to develop a nutrient profile model. This research focused on the application of the model to the further regulation of broadcast advertising, as envisaged in the White Paper, Choosing Health.

Dietary surveys

The Food Standards Agency carries out surveys on the amounts and nutritional values of the food we eat in order to establish a sound evidence base from which to do its work.

Nutrition, diet and food choices

Information on research programmes that investigate relationships between the nutrients in our food and our health, and provide the scientific basis needed for the Agency’s dietary advice to improve public health. Other work identifies the barriers that people face to making healthier dietary choices, such as minority and low-income groups, and determines how these barriers may be overcome.

Nutrition research review and Agency response

The Agency welcomes the recommendations made by the independent expert panel that undertook the review of the Agency’s current nutrition research and surveys portfolio, and wishes to thank the Chair, Professor Mike Kelly, and the other panel members for their important contributions.
