The Agency is working to achieve changes in the way food is promoted to children to redress the imbalance between less healthy foods and healthier alternatives.
Food Standards Agency Chair Deirdre Hutton has written to Lord David Currie, Chair of communications regulator Ofcom, to welcome its announcement of proposed new restrictions on TV advertising to children.
Agency Chair Deirdre Hutton has written to Ofcom in response to the independent communications regulator's consultation on options for tightening controls on the TV advertising of food to children.
The Agency has developed a nutrient profiling model as a tool to differentiate foods which are high in fat, saturated fat, salt or sugar. The model is being used by media and communications regulator Ofcom to regulate the advertising and promotion of foods to children.
We already know that many children's diets contain more fat, sugar and salt than is recommended.
