How well can we assess the safety of GM foods? Will it be possible to identify any adverse effects and how widely distributed could these be while global corporations are at the forefront of GM crop and food production? Who will be responsible for any harmful effects and compensate (if possible) those affected?
My name is James Maryanski. I represent the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which is the federal agency in the US charged with protecting the health of US consumers.

I intend to try and lay some baselines by very generally describing how plant breeders have improved the quality of life of citizens over the past century, and use this to feed in the technique of genetic modification as one tool that can be used in plant breeding.
I plan to give the jurors 'character references' for the principal protagonists who've helped to get us into this fine mess. Jurors need to know of all hidden agendas and motivations, so I'll do my best to lay these bare.
