Citizens' Jury

As part of the activities to independently assess people's views on GM food and how it relates to consumer choice, the Food Standards Agency ran a three-day citizens' jury.

The jury addressed the question: 'Should GM Foods be available to buy in the UK?'
and the entire proceedings can be viewed (except jury deliberations) by clicking on the link below.

About Citizens' Juries

Citizens' juries are a useful way of involving people in the decision-making process of a public body.

Usually involving 12-16 people, they aim to look in detail at a particular issue and answer a pre-determined question.

Citizens' juries are encouraged to get to the 'heart of the matter' and come to reasoned conclusions after hearing evidence from a range of speakers.
