What role will local authorities play?

The Agency recognises the crucial role that local authorities will continue to play in helping businesses raise standards, through their routine inspection programmes and through providing advice and assistance.

England - The Agency is making available a package of measures for local authorities, underpinned by additional funding of more than
10m over a three-year period starting in 2005/06.

Wales - The Agency is offering help and financial support to local authorities.

Scotland - Scottish Ministers made available additional funds of
2m for 2004/5 and a further
2m for 2005/6 to build upon previous local authority work and to encourage further uptake of HACCP in the catering sector.

Northern Ireland - Local authorities have been using the 'Safe Catering' model for a number of years and hence are pivotal to its success.
