January 2008 update on vitamins and minerals in food

This update gives details of the European Commission Working Group discussions on setting maximum and minimum levels of vitamins and minerals in foodstuffs according to provisions within European Union (EU) Directive 2002/46/EC on food supplements and Regulation (EC) 1925/2006 on addition of vitamins and minerals and of certain other substances to foods.

This is an update on the discussions at 17 December 2007 EU working group meeting and a request for comments and evidence from stakeholders.

Comments are particularly invited on item 2: setting minimum levels for food supplements, where the Commission has suggested a minimum level of 15% of Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) per daily dose and requested evidence in support of any alternative proposed minimum level.
