April 2007 update on food hygiene legislation

Monday 2 April 2007

European Commission proposes to amend Regulation 852/2004

The Commission has proposed an amendment to Article 5 of Regulation (EC) 852/2004, which requires food businesses to put in place food safety management procedures based on HACCP principles.

The proposal, as drafted, excludes from the whole of the Article 5 (1) requirement all food business operators with fewer than 10 employees that predominantly sell food direct to the final consumer. Excluded food business operators would still have to comply with all other relevant requirements of Regulation 852/2004.

Stakeholder views are sought.
