Listen to this siteThe functions of the MHS Board, a sub-committee of the FSA Board, are to give strategic direction to the MHS within the overall strategy agreed by the FSA Board; and to set appropriate targets for the MHS and monitor its performance and hold it to account on behalf of the FSA Board.
The MHS Board also has an important role in guiding and driving through the changes needed to transform the MHS into a more efficient organisation. In recognition of the importance of this role, the MHS Board is a formal sub-committee of the FSA Board (previously it was an advisory sub-committee), and includes Steve McGrath, MHS Chief Executive, and the Chief Veterinary Officer. The MHS Board is chaired by Ian Reynolds, Deputy Chair of the FSA Board.

Back to topIn October 2007, the FSA Board agreed to transform the MHS Board and its Terms of Reference to recognise the new responsibility of the MHS Board to guide and drive through the approved Transformed MHS plan, to develop and implement further streamlining in 2008/09 onwards and also to constitute the new MHS Board as a formal sub-committee of the FSA Board.
In May 2008, the FSA Board agreed to amend the MHS Board Terms of Reference to raise the number of FSA Board members on the MHS Board from four to five and not to replace the two external non-executive directors when their appointments ended in July 2008.
The paper considered by the FSA Board, which includes the current MHS Board's Terms of Reference, is provided at the link below.
