Fish Labelling Guidance - March 2003

These notes have been produced with the aim of providing informal, non-statutory guidance on the new labelling requirements for certain fish and fish products. They also provide advice on best practice and should be read in conjunction with the relevant legislation and other Guidance Notes where appropriate.

The examples contained in these Guidance Notes are provided for illustration only. The reader is advised to seek further advice from their home Food Authority on any specific queries.

The aim of this Guidance is to facilitate uniform application and enforcement of legislation relating to fish labelling with specific reference to those provisions which ensure that consumers are presented with meaningful and accurately labelled products.
