Listen to this siteThe Food Standards Agency is responsible for drawing up the rules on the composition, labelling and marketing of animal feed and ensuring the enforcement of animal feed law is co-ordinated and consistent.
The Animal Feed Law Enforcement Liaison Group (AFLELG) comprises representatives of UK enforcement bodies and government departments with an interest in animal feed law. It meets twice a year to discuss enforcement related issues, to identify common problems and agree to a consistent and co-ordinated approach to feed law enforcement.
The code of practice sets out instructions and criteria to which local authorities – the feed authorities – should have regard when engaged in the enforcement of animal feed law. Feed authorities must follow and implement the provisions of the code that apply to them.
Feed establishments in third countries (non-EU countries) that manufacture certain additives and premixtures of additives and compound feeds that contain them, and export such products to the EU, must have a representative registered in the EU. Details on this requirement, and how to apply to be a representative, are provided below with a list of representatives who have been registered in the UK.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) supplementary guidance on the sampling of GM food and feed for enforcement officers, following a European Commission (EC) Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) Mission to the UK in June 2006.
