What is RSS?The Agency aims to highlight and share good practice identified during its work with local authorities and other enforcement stakeholders.
One of the main aims of the Food Standards Agency's focused audit programme at local authorities is to highlight and share good practice identified during the audits.
As part of the Food Standards Agency's Engagement of Asian Communities Project, the Agency invites local authorities to share good practice and research work aimed at improving food safety awareness among Asian consumers and food businesses in Great Britain.
The introductory guide was developed to complement the good practice guides developed by the sea-ports in the report, Benchmarking the Port Health Function, working with the Syniad Benchmarking Centre in 2002.
The Agency has published a list of food-related initiatives run by local authorities, so the public can find out what's happening in their area.
Since August 2004 the Food Standards Agency has attended a number of meetings held by Food Liaison Groups in England and updated food law enforcement officers on issues of interest to them. The latest presentation used by FSA speakers can be found below.
The Agency awards Food Champion Awards to local authorities to acknowledge the important role they play in their local community and the good practice they have demonstrated. The awards recognise how local authorities have focused on improving food safety and community diet and nutrition in their area.
The aim of the food industries' guides is to support effective application of the food hygiene legislation. The Agency will assess any national guide developed in accordance with the guidelines and will recognise those that it considers are suitable and practicable guides to compliance with the legislation.
During 2007 the Food Standards Agency, in partnership with LACORS, held local authority update seminars in Manchester and London. The updates provided Agency officials with the opportunity to speak directly to local authorities on the areas of policy for which they are responsible.
