Food Alert: for Action
Ref: 04/2007 Update 1 (06/2007 Scotland: For Information)
Food Alert for Action 04/2007 issued on 23rd February outlined preliminary action to be taken with regard to the above incident.
While investigating Food Alert for Action 04/2007, enforcement officers from the London Boroughs of Haringey and Redbridge discovered a similar product made at a different establishment.
Enforcement officers from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets entered the premises of Euroversal International Ltd/ Midhai Ghar, on 28 February 2007. The premises were producing natural yoghurt and dairy sweets and were discovered to be unapproved.
A Voluntary Closure Agreement was obtained between Euroversal International Ltd/ Midhai Ghar and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The remaining yoghurt and dairy sweets products were voluntarily surrendered.
Distribution is to businesses in London, Birmingham, Luton, St Albans and Cardiff.

Action to be taken by local authorities
Local authorities are requested to contact those companies and establish if the product listed is still on the premises. If the yoghurt reported is found to be on the premises, officers should remove it using the powers available. If necessary the Food Safety Act 1990 and regulation 27 of the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006 can be used. Where possible, Officers should obtain full details of where the yoghurt has been distributed to, and inform the Agency accordingly.
Scotland: At present no distribution of these products to Scottish businesses has been identified to the Agency and therefore no action is required by Scottish local authorities.
