Aliza's Foods Ltd recalls Sapna Mixed Pickle due to contamination with erucic acid

Wednesday 1 August 2007

Food Alert: for Information

Ref: 26/2007 (27/2007 Scotland)

In accordance with Article 19 of EC Regulation 178/2002, Aliza’s Foods Ltd has recalled Sapna Mixed Pickle due to contamination with erucic acid above the statutory limit, as prescribed in Regulation 4(1)(b) of the Erucic Acid in Food Regulations 1977.

Erucic acid is a substance naturally found in some oils derived from plants, primarily in some varieties of mustard seed oil and rapeseed oil. Although there have been no confirmed cases of erucic acid toxicity in humans, high levels of erucic acid have been linked to the formation of fatty deposits in heart muscle in animals.

Aliza’s Foods Ltd has undertaken a product recall and contacted all of their customers, advising that point-of-sale notices are displayed. These notices will alert customers to the recall and advise them of what actions to take if they have purchased the product.

The product being recalled is:

Sapna Mixed Pickle 320g

Expiry Date: All products dated 2007

No other Aliza’s Foods Ltd products are known to be affected.
