Walkers withdraws batches of Salt and Vinegar Squares due to incorrect labelling information

Walkers Snack Foods Ltd has withdrawn certain batches of its own brand Salt and Vinegar Squares due to packaging errors resulting in incorrect labelling information.

The Squares contain whey powder (from milk), which is not declared on the ingredients list. The product does declare lactose (from milk) in the ingredients list, but there is no lactose in the product as this ingredient has been replaced by whey powder. There is a risk that a consumer who is allergic to milk protein may purchase the product believing it only contains lactose (milk sugar) rather than whey (milk protein). The product is unsafe for individuals who are allergic to milk protein..

Walkers Snack Foods Ltd has withdrawn the affected batches of the Salt and Vinegar Squares. Notices will be placed the national press on Monday 4 September 2006. The notices will advise customers of the withdrawal and the actions they can take if they have already purchased the affected product. Walkers have also been in contact with the Anaphylaxis Campaign and Allergy UK who have informed their members who are allergic to milk via a mailshot.

No other batch codes or Walkers products are known to be affected.
