Waitrose recalls two own brand oriental ready meals due to incorrect labelling

Friday 22 September 2006

Food Alert: for Information

Ref: 43/2006 (45/2006 Scotland)

Waitrose has recalled their own brand 'Oriental Banquet for two with 2 starters and crispy duck' and 'Oriental Supper for two with spring rolls' ready meal boxes, due to a packaging error resulting in incorrect allergen labelling information.

Some packs may contain Prawn Spring Rolls instead of Vegetable Spring Rolls, and therefore do not show the correct ingredients or allergy advisory statement. They contain prawns, which are not labelled as an ingredient, and are not specified as an allergy warning, making this product unsafe for individuals who are allergic to shellfish.

Waitrose has undertaken a product recall of the affected items and product recall notices will appear in the National press as of 23 September 2006. Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in all stores to notify the public of the recall. The notice advises consumers of the reason for the recall and the actions they should take if they have already purchased the affected product.

In addition, Waitrose has been in contact with the Anaphylaxis Campaign and will be contacting Allergy UK, who will inform their shellfish allergic members of the recall via their websites and a mailshot.

The products recalled are:

All date codes up to and including 27 September 2006

No other Waitrose products are known to be affected
