Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd withdraws its own-brand multi-pack crisps due to a labelling error

Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd has withdrawn certain batches of its own brand multi-pack crisps due to a labelling error resulting in incorrect allergen information.

The multi-pack Sausage & Tomato flavour crisps concerned contain lactose, which is not labelled. The multi-pack Roast Chicken flavour crisps concerned contain whey protein, which is not labelled. These products may be unsafe for people with a milk allergy or who are lactose intolerant.

Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd has undertaken a product withdrawal of the affected batches and their withdrawal notices will appear in the national press on 17 November 2006. Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in all stores to alert consumers to the reasons for the withdrawal and the actions they can take if they have purchased the affected products.

In addition Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd has been in contact with the Anaphylaxis Campaign and Allergy UK who will inform their at-risk allergic members of the withdrawal via their websites.
