HJ Heinz Co Ltd recalls a batch of its own brand chicken & mushroom toast toppers due to incorrect allergen labelling

Saturday 4 November 2006

Food Alert: for Information

Ref: 54/2006 (56/2006 Scotland)

Heads of Environmental Health and Directors of Trading Standards will wish to be aware that HJ Heinz Co. Ltd has recalled a batch of its own brand Chicken & Mushroom Toast Toppers (128g) due to a packaging error resulting in incorrect allergen labelling information.

Some tins are labelled as Chicken & Mushroom but contain the Ham & Cheese topping, and therefore do not show the correct ingredients or allergy advisory statement. They contain mustard, which is not labelled as an ingredient and is not specified as an allergy warning, making this product unsafe for individuals who are allergic to mustard.

HJ Heinz Co. Ltd has undertaken a product recall of the affected batch. A press statement will be issued by HJ Heinz Co. Ltd this evening, followed by press notices and point of sale notices, which will be displayed in affected stores to notify the public of the recall. These notices will advise consumers of the reason for the recall and the actions they should take if they have already purchased the affected product. In addition, HJ Heinz Co. Ltd has been in contact with the Anaphylaxis Campaign and will be contacting Allergy UK, which will inform their mustard allergic members of the recall via their websites and a mailshot.

The Product Recalled is:

Heinz Chicken & Mushroom Toast Toppers - 128g

Best Before End: 01 2009

Product Code: VH1

Date Code: 6256

Time Code: 0900 to 1830
