Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd has recalled two batches of its own brand 18 Chocolate & Toffee Crispie Bites due to elevated levels of aflatoxins present in one of the ingredients.

The maximum permitted limits in cereal products are 2 parts per billion for aflatoxin B1 and 4 parts per billion for total aflatoxin, and these limits are enforced under the Contaminants in Food (England) Regulations 2005.

Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd has recalled the affected batches from sale. Product recall notices will be placed in the national press as from 18 May 2006. In addition, point-of-sale notices will be displayed in store to alert customers to the recall and explain the actions to take if they have purchased the product.

The affected product is:
Sainsbury's 18 Chocolate & Toffee Crispie Bites 216g pack
Best before dates: 18 Aug 06 and 27 Aug 06

No other batch codes are known to be affected.
