Food Alert: for Action
Ref: 37/2006 (39/2006 Scotland)
Certain batches of Marca Pina Soy Sauce (1 litre) have been found to be contaminated with levels of 3-monochloropropan-1,2-diol (3-MCPD) above EU statutory limits. According to the label, the affected brand of Soy sauce was manufactured in the Philippines by Pinakamasarap Corporation.
The maximum permitted limit for 3-MCPD is 0.02mg/kg, which is enforced under the Contaminants in Food (England) Regulations 2006. These regulations provide the enforcement mechanism for EC Regulation 466/2001. Separate, parallel legislation exists in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Details of the affected batches are as listed below and the product in all cases has been presented in a plastic, 1 litre bottle with a yellow cap and red labelling.
Investigations by local authorities have determined several importers of this product. Where possible, local authorities have been contacted to ensure affected products are removed from sale. However, in many cases, full distribution details have not been available and there may be more importers distributing the batches in question.
