Marks & Spencer plc withdraws batches of its own brand Strawberry & Almond Crunch due to incorrect allergy labelling

Thursday 7 December 2006

Food Alert: for Information

Ref: 66/2006 (67/2006 Scotland)

Marks & Spencer plc has voluntarily withdrawn batches of its own brand Strawberry & Almond Crunch breakfast cereal due to the omission of 'Milk' from the Allergy Advice box.

The Marks & Spencer Strawberry & Almond Crunch concerned contains whey powder, which is declared as an ingredient but 'Milk' has been omitted from the allergy advice box. Although such an allergy advice box is voluntary, it is strongly recommended that where they are used, they include all the specified allergens used in the food. In this case, although nuts, wheat and gluten are listed, milk is not, making this product potentially unsafe for people with a milk allergy.

Marks & Spencers plc has undertaken a voluntary product withdrawal of the affected batch. In addition Marks and Spencers plc has been in contact with the Anaphylaxsis Campaign and Allergy UK who will inform their at risk allergic members of the withdrawal via their websites.

The product withdrawn is:
Marks & Spencers Strawberry & Almond Crunch UPC Code 0001243

No other Marks & Spencer plc products are affected.
