Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc recalls two of its canned Bettabuy products contaminated with peanut protein

Monday 16 May 2005

Food Alert: for Information

Ref: 31/2005

Wm Morrisons Supermarkets plc has recalled two canned products from its Bettabuy range due to contamination with peanut residue detected during routine sampling.

The undeclared presence of the peanut protein makes these products unsafe for individuals who are allergic to peanuts.

Wm Morrisons Supermarkets plc has undertaken a product recall of the affected items. Product recall notices will be placed in the national press on 18 May 2005. Point-of-sale notices are to be displayed in all stores along with notices located where the products can usually be found. These notices will advise customers of the reason for the recall and the actions they can take if they have already purchased one of the affected products. In addition Morrisons has also been in contact with the Anaphylaxis Campaign.

The products withdrawn are:
Morrisons Bettabuy Chicken Casserole 392g
best before end July 2006

Morrisons Bettabuy Stewed Steak and Gravy 410g
production date 041006 EI (embossed on can)
best before end Oct 2007

No other date codes of these products are known to be affected.
