Marks & Spencer recalls a small quantity of own brand duck spring rolls due to a packaging error resulting in incorrect labelling information

Wednesday 14 December 2005

Food Alert: for Information

Ref: 79/2005 (78/2005 Scotland)

Heads of Environmental Health and Directors of Trading Standards will wish to be aware that Marks & Spencer has recalled a small quantity of its own brand 6 Duck Spring Rolls, due to a packaging error resulting in incorrect labelling information.

Some packs may contain Prawn Spring Rolls and therefore do not show the correct ingredients or allergy advisory statement. They contain prawns, which are not labelled as an ingredient, and are not specified as an allergy warning, which makes this product unsafe for individuals who are allergic to shellfish.

The affected product has already been removed from stores. Marks & Spencer has undertaken a product recall of the affected item and product recall notices will appear in the national press tomorrow. In addition, point-of-sale notices are displayed in all stores to notify the public of the recall. The notice advises consumers of the reason for the recall and the actions they should take if they have already purchased the affected product.

In addition, Marks & Spencer has been in contact with the Anaphylaxis Campaign and Allergy UK, both of which will inform their shellfish allergic members of the recall via a mail shot.

The products recalled is:

6 Duck Spring Rolls
Display Date: 15 Dec 2005
Use By Date: 15 Dec 2005
Unique Product Code: 0236577

A copy of the store notice displayed by Marks & Spencer is attached below. No other Mark & Spencer products are known to be affected.
