Update on recall of unpasteurised Camembert cheeses due to potential contamination with Escherichia coli O26

Ref: 81/2005 (Update 1) - 80/2005 Update 1 (Scotland)

This notice is in addition to FAFA 81/2005 and includes further products with possible contamination with verocytotoxin-producing Escherichia coli O26.

Information has been received as a result of local authority investigations that product from the manufacturer, Laiterie Fromagerie du Val d�Ay-Etablissement REAUX, is being imported directly from France and sold in a variety of retail outlets, which may include farmers' markets or food fairs.

The suspect products are:
Camembert cheese
Coulommier cheese

Brand names for the above cheeses:
Reo, Reaux, Laiterie du Val d�Ay & Le Gaslonde

Le Gaslonde unpasteurised butter

All date, lot codes and pack sizes

Identification of the product

Product can be identified by a Health Mark with the Letter F above the number 50.267.01, which is above the letters CEE enclosed by an oval border (see below).



Food Alert for action 80/2005 Update 1

Action to be taken by local authorities

These products may present a health risk if consumed, and may not comply with the food safety requirements specified in the Food Safety Act 1990 due to possible contamination with verocytotoxin-producing Escherichia coli O26. Local authorities are requested to ensure that the affected product is removed from sale immediately should it be discovered during the course of investigations.
