Nong Shim noodle based snacks withdrawn due to presence of undeclared irradiated ingredients (update 2)

Monday 8 August 2005

Food Alert: for Information

Ref: 34/2005 (Update 2)

Following Food Alert 34/2005 issued on 15 June 2005 and update 1 issued on 22 July 2005 the Agency has now identified a further company that has imported the Nong Shim brand products, which were listed in the original food alert.

The company identified is:
Manna Supermarket of New Malden Surrey

A company in Germany supplied Manna with the implicated Nong Shim products, which have now been withdrawn from sale.

The Agency met with Nong Shim representatives on 3 August to discuss the issue of irradiated ingredients and the detection of irradiated food. Nong Shim has assured the Agency that it is working with its suppliers to minimise the risk of including irradiated ingredients in its foods. Nong Shim Laboratories have also invested in a number of new instruments to detect irradiated food in both raw ingredients and finished products.
