Food Alert: for Information

Ref: 49/2004 (England) 50/2004 (Scotland)

Food Authorities were advised in Food Alert: 'For Information' 49/2004 of the presence of peanut residue in ASDA 6 White Muffins. All date codes were removed with immediate effect. As a result of further investigations by the manufacturer, Allied Bakeries, a number of other brands are to be recalled, as they may be contaminated with peanut residue.

Allied Bakeries and affected retailers have undertaken a joint Product Recall of the muffins. These are:-

Kingsmill 'Magnificent' Muffins
Sunblest Muffins
Sainsburys 4 White Muffins
Asda 6 White Muffins
Tesco White Muffins 6 pack
Iceland Muffins 4 pack

All Best Before Date Codes up to and including 3/11/04 are being recalled.

The retailers will arrange for in-store Recall Notices, and the joint product Recall Notice will be published in tomorrow's newspapers. No other brands of muffins are known to be affected.

A copy of the Product Recall is attached below.
