Product recall of Netto canned chilli con carne 392g

Heads of environmental health services and directors of trading standards will wish to be aware of a product recall by Netto Ltd of chilli con carne in 392g cans, due to contamination of one of the ingredients with the illegal dye Sudan I. The product was manufactured by Glenbrook Foods Ltd, Portadown, Craigavon Northern Ireland.

Sudan I is not a permitted colour under the Colours in Food Regulations 1995. It is considered to be a genotoxic carcinogen and its presence, at any level, is not permitted in foodstuffs for any purpose

The product recalled is:
Netto Chilli Con Carne 392g

The batches known to be affected are:
Best Before End May 06 3149 NCT
Best Before End Jul 06 3183 NCT
Best Before End Jul 06 3289 NCT
Best Before End Jul 06 3209 NCT
Best Before End Aug 06 3231 NCT

No other Netto products are known to be affected

Netto Ltd has issued a product recall notice in the national newspapers.

BBE JULY 06 3183 NCT
BBE JULY 06 3189 NCT
BBE JULY 06 3209 NCT
BBE AUG 06 3231 NCT

As there may be a problem with the quality of the product.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
Customers who have purchased the above item with the stated batch codes should return it to the store where a full refund will be issued.
