Product Recall of Cafedirect '5065' Freeze Dried Premium Instant Coffee 100g

Heads of Environmental Health Services and Directors of Trading Standards will wish to be aware of a product recall by Cafedirect Ltd of one batch of '5065' freeze dried premium instant coffee following the discovery of small pieces of glass on opening of one jar. The product details are as below.

Product: 5065 Freeze Dried Premium Instant Coffee

Brand: Cafedirect

Packaging: 100g glass jars

Durability Codes: Best Before May 03

Batch Number: L1326 DE

Although the glass was found in only one jar from one batch, the Company is taking the precautionary measure of recalling this batch to ensure further tests can be carried out in their investigation of the matter.

Customers are being advised to contact Cafedirect Ltd by telephoning a special helpline. The company will arrange collection of jars and customers will be reimbursed in full.

Additional Information: The FSA understands that Cafedirect Ltd intends to issue a press release to appear in the Independent tomorrow (Saturday) and The Observer on Sunday, and will be contacting all retailers to advise them of the recall.

No other Batch Codes or Best Before Dates are affected by this recall.

Press release to be issued by Cafedirect:

'IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM CAFÉDIRECT LTD

As a precautionary measure, Cafédirect Limited is voluntarily recalling one batch of its '5065' freeze dried premium instant coffee. Only 100g jars marked with the batch number L1326 DE (best before May 03) may be affected.

This action follows the discovery of small pieces of glass in one jar, where thankfully no injury was caused and we believe this to be an isolated incident. We do however, wish to recall jars from this particular batch to ensure further tests can be carried out in our investigation of the matter.

If you have purchased a jar of 5065 with the above batch number, please get in touch with Cafédirect Ltd by telephoning our special Helpline on Tel: 08457 660192. We shall arrange collection of the jar and you will be reimbursed in full.
