Product Recall Of 'Le Potager' Brand Tinned Small Potatoes

Heads of Environmental Health Services and Directors of Trading Standards will wish to be aware of a product recall of batches of a brand of tinned small potatoes manufactured in France and distributed to the UK via the Netherlands. This follows a customer complaint that led to investigations that discovered a number of blown cans. Tests are currently being undertaken to try and determine the cause of the problem.

The product was distributed in the UK to Farmfoods Freezer Centres who immediately initiated a product withdrawal from their stores. In addition, the Company are issuing a product recall notice which should appear in the press tomorrow morning, and intend displaying point-of-sale notices in their stores to alert customers who may have already bought the product. The product details are as below.

Product: 'Le Potager' Tinned Small Potatoes

Can Size: 400g

Production Date: Oct 01

Production Codes: K9293 or K9294 or K9295 or K9300
NB: Farmfoods advise that cans of these codes also have another code A 1T on them.

Best Before Date: Oct 03
NB: Farmfoods advise that this is extrapolated from the can label that specifies the best before date is 2 years on from what is believed to be the production date on the can, ie Oct 01

The product recall notice is as below.

'Product Recall Notice

'Le Potager' Brand
Tinned Small Potatoes
400g Net Weight

Sold through Farmfoods Freezer Centres
Between 1st April 2002 to 20th June 2002

Farmfoods are recalling a batch of tinned Le Potager brand Small Potatoes as they do not meet their normal high quality standards.
The batch concerned has the codes

Production Date: Oct 01

Production Codes: K9293 or K9294 or K9295 or K9300, A 1T

Best Before: Oct 03

Customers are advised not to eat this product and to dispose of the can intact or return either the full can or the label from the can to any Farmfoods Freezer Centre for a full refund and an apology for any inconvenience this may cause.'
