Heads of Environmental Health Services and Directors of Trading Standards will wish to be aware of a product recall by Interbrew UK of Boddingtons Draught Bitter (440ml can - 24 can shrinkwrapped packs), due to possible contamination with cleaning fluid used during the brewing process to clean the inside of beer storage tanks.

The company is issuing a press release today (see below).

Press release issued by Interbrew UK:

PRODUCT RECALL

Boddingtons Draught Bitter Cans
440 ml Can - Shrink-Wrapped 24 Packs
Batch Code L2 302R

Interbrew UK regret to announce that a small number of 440ml cans of Boddingtons Draught Bitter may contain some of the cleaning fluid used during the brewing process to clean the inside of beer storage tanks.

This is not a public health issue. The product is being withdrawn from sale for quality reasons as the affected product is likely to smell and taste unpleasant. These cans should not be opened and the beer should not be consumed.

The affected cans carry the batch code L2 302R and a best before date of August 03. These details are printed on the bottom of the can and can also be found on the short end of the outer cardboard tray. These 440ml cans can only be bought as part of a yellow branded shrink-wrapped 24 can case. The affected 440ml cans are all being withdrawn from public sale.

The public are advised to return any affected stock to the store where they purchased it for a full refund.

All other Boddingtons products and packaging are unaffected.

We do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you especially at this time of year.
