Strategic and Corporate Plans

The 'Strategic Plan to 2010' sets out what the Agency wants to achieve over the next three years. The annual Corporate Plan shows the short-term goals and milestones against which we will measure and report our progress.

We have also published a guide to What happened to the 2005 Strategic Plan Targets? showing how the objectives and targets in the original Strategic Plan have been carried forward.

Background

In 2006 the Agency introduced its first annual review of its Strategic Plan 2005-10. The annual review gives it the opportunity to measure and report progress against strategic targets and ensure that the plan is an evolving, dynamic document that is fit-for-purpose.

The updated plan does not signal a change in direction for the Agency. The key aims of food safety, eating for health and choice and the supporting strategies for delivery, remain the same.

Strategic Plan for 2010-2015

A new Strategic Plan for 2010-2015 will set out a clear direction towards our vision of 'Safe food and healthy eating for all'. While focused on delivering the commitments in our Strategic Plan to 2010, we must also continue to look ahead, anticipate and plan for the future. The Food Standards Agency is now beginning the process to develop our next five-year Strategic Plan.

Over the coming months, the FSA will be considering the strategic direction for the Agency to 2015. This will lead to a set of priorities for action that not only reflect the changing environment but also the progress we have made in key areas of work to date and where we believe we can continue to make a real impact.

We recognise the importance of working with partners and stakeholders to develop the best possible outcomes for all people in the UK. Throughout the strategic planning process we will be engaging with our delivery partners in local and regional communities, with consumers and their representatives, and with all our stakeholders, establishing opportunities for ongoing feedback and discussions.

We want our strategy to be developed and shared with those partners and stakeholders who have a role and interest in delivering food safety and public health outcomes. It is only through good working partnerships that we can fulfil our primary role of protecting UK consumers from unsafe food, and continue to play a leading role in improving the health of the nation through encouraging consumers to make informed choices about eating healthily.

We will be publishing details on when and how you can have your say on the Food Standards Agency’s strategic priorities for 2010 to 2015 in the near future.
